In my opinion, being pretentious is one of the least things that should be worried about. Some of the more important qualities for a name (in my view) are if the child will be able to say their own...
working in a school I have to say that it's less the children who comment on 'weird' names, it's more the adults. The children mostly just accept each other for who they are and different names...
As a gigantic Gilmore Girls fan, I love Rory as a nickname for Lorelai. I think it's sweet and spunky and the juxtaposition of the name and nickname give the child good options of what they'd like...

Yes! Mostly for girls in my case
A: Alice, Adelaide, Anna, Ada, Ariel, Astrid, Avia, April
E: Eleanor, Elizabeth, Ella, Eva, Eloise
L: Lorelai, Louisa, Lily, Lola, Lyra, Layla
Not really a fan of D names for girls or K names for either gender.
I feel like X and Y are trying way too hard to be 'out there'
I made a thread for this a while back because I'm a HUGE fan of sweet and simple Jane
I love it more as first name than a middle because I feel like it's a common 'go to' middle for parents who...

My neighbor has four daughters, Maisy, Molly, Millie and Maya
I think it's terrible :P
Recently I started a part time job as a cashier in a supermarket while I'm finishing up my degree
And the cutie patootie little kids that come through there often have some interesting names! I've...
I'm not married yet, but my last name is actually a boy's name so if I was an only child (and therefore the line would die out) I would consider using it. However, I have an older brother to carry...

I've seen a few names recently where parents have combined two names to make something they think sounds unique.
Case in point: Johnovan
I can't say I really care for the name or the trend in...

I have two middle names, as does my older brother, and I've always really liked it to be honest.
Whenever I tell people my full name they always say it sounds really sophisticated and fancy and in...

Two bloggers that I read frequently are currently pregnant and I was wondering what you guys think potential names for their babies could be!
I don't know the gender of either, so a boy or girl...

I think it's usable, but I really don't care for either. Neither of the spellings look right to me and it feels a little awkward to say

I think it's all down to tastes changing, and I've definitely had that. Names I liked when I was 14 or 15 just don't do anything for me anymore, and I'm sure my taste will probably change again by...
It's just SO overused and I want to love it because it was my grandmother's name and it's one of my middle names, but I just hear it far too often now.
I think it really depends on how many children there are in total and how many had the I initial. If only two had it, and the others were all different I think it would be fine, but if there were...

Tilly, Sam and Charlie

In a way, if I was you I'd like it that my parents chose names for me that they really liked instead of just naming me after people.
In my family, I'm the one with the names that honour people. ...
I think if a little girl has two middle names, Marie can sound quite fresh, but it is a bit overused.
It's Anne in my family. I thank my parents daily that they decided to end that tradition with me
