I prefer Jasper to Breccan, and agree that Breccan and Bryton sound a little too similar.
The nickname J (or Jay) works fine.

I love the name Charis. It's greek for grace, so a virtue name, but an unusual one.
I know one girl with the name, but I haven't heard it too often.
