I gasped as soon as I got to Annabelle. Love that name. Love the Annabel spelling even more.

It would depend on how common the name is. For example, it's unrealistic to name a child Michael and not expect him to get Mike at some point; or Matthew and not expect Matt. However, I feel you...

Ha. I had no idea this would be a dream when I opened the thread. I guess that goes to show you that I've been conditioned to reading some pretty wacky combinations on this board!
It's not an appealing name to me for either gender, sorry.
My son has a Thor in his class (Toronto, Canada). Pretty much anytime he mentions Thor, someone listening makes a WTF face. I think this is one of those names that's going to garner big reactions....

I don't understand how associations that pre-date your own birth by hundreds of years can be said to have ruined a name for anyone? Colour me confused on that line of thinking.

Ha. Well, we've already broken that rule. Our daughter's name is Virginia Noemi Diane Last Name. It's a mouthful, but we love it.
