If there is such a thing.
I'm on the hunt for a surname for a Mary Sue family I'm creating for the fun of it. Mary Sue's are so detested in actually writing and stories, but they're oh so fun to...
Very welcome. :)
Oh yeah, I have two cousins named Aliyah, and have had a class mate, and have a student who say it "uh-lee-uh" or "ah-lee-uh" with emphasis on the second syllable, instead of the...
Ohhh, well then I'd say it's fine. If it's Edwards, Jacobs/Jacobson etc, then it's fine because those are so common. If it's something more rare, like Jasper, then I'd avoid it.
If your surname is Cullen, or Swan, then I'd avoid Emmett sadly.
I guess I'm the only one who really isn't impressed by the Oz names. :/ I don't see anything fantastic about them, nor do they fit together especially well to me. :(
Aaliyah - Ah-Leah.
As someone who grew up learning Arabic, it drives me mad when people actually think "uh-lee-uh" is the correct pronunciation of Aaliyah.
It's "Ahh-liyah", emphasis on the Ahh,...
Definitely not as a first.
Evan is a boys name.
Evans is possessive.
Evans on a girl just makes me think that she's property of an Evan. Dislike. It's self-defeatingly sexist in all planes.
As far as I knew, Maisie is a form of Margaret, so it's not redundant to me. The sound is though, it's awfully cutesy and annoying tbh.
Sounds like the name from a children's nursery rhyme.

That's how I comforted myself as well, that so long as I didn't become like my mother, then things would be fine. However, then I realised that "fine" wasn't enough for me. I need...
I'm the same way!
I really like Carmen, it's a simple kind of beauty and intrigue.
Oh no worries, it's still related to the names and pronunciations so by all means. :P
Zipporah by far. We have a Zipporah nn Zippy at the daycare. She's super cute, super fun, and everyone adores her. We call her Zippy pretty much exclusively.
Sephora's far too make-up-brand to...
Ah, no, not the same book. :(
Liesl is growing on me, but it still feels incomplete and like a typo. If I used it as a middle then Liesl would be easier.
Oh thanks for that. I realised that the pronunciation I'd had in mind was closer to the Italian one than the Spanish.
Philosophy of Mom is a tad stodgy. I really love Balancing Budgette.

That's another huge worry of mine: traumatizing my child. I have a fair number of childhood traumas, and ever since I sat in on a trauma workshop and realised how simple the formula for a traumatic...

These were all so beautiful and very reassuring, thank you so much.
A huge thank you to @goldielocks, and her mother for that awesome advice. I really love the best-friend thing, that's a very...
I don't live in America, so I'm hoping the pronunciation establishment would be easier, but due to the popular The Vampire Diaries show, it might still be a challenge. :/
In this order: Caroline, Juliet, Rebecca, Bridget, Kiera are my top five.

I live in a very multi-cultural and large city in Canada.
Here we have everything, honestly. I went to school with a Shagana (Tamil Name), a Mindy, and Sally and Lily twinset. And there were many...
Ahh, I understand more now.
Though for future references, babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com isn't has very authentic anymore, which is sad as I used to frequent there a lot. Behindthename.com tends...
I do know of the name Lieselotte, which is lovely, but it's a bit too complex for my liking. Perhaps as a middle though...
As for the spelling of Liesel/Liesl, I first saw the Liesel spelling, and...

You made some excellent points and reminders, especially the bolded part. I don't think people realise how much those types of actions can affect relationships with others close to them.

This topic is definitely several years ahead than expected, but such is how my mind works.
I've been wondering for a long time now how mothers and daughters seem to have such a close, open,...
