Harriet and Emily.
I hope to use Harriet at some point. Although I love Emily, it is one of my favourite names, it is not a name I would use as my Grandmother refused to have anything to do with...
No, I don't think they are too close. They have a similar style, but are a completely different sound in my head. Isla is just lovely! If you do feel it is too close, what about Iona?

Thanks everyone! The main thought seems to be that it is ok to go with Anna as a possibility. The middle name will be Caroline, whatever first name we go with as that is the other Granny. Given that...

I would say it depends how far you are away from family and friends, and how you settle into where ever you move to.
We live in a small seaside village in the Scottish Highlands. It's beautiful,...

That's what makes more sense to me. Yet I keep finding things like this - Also a variant of Evan, and hence, also a version of John.
But it doesn't sound like it can be to me! I am still hopeful!

For a girl's name, we would like a variant of Anne (one of the baby's grandmothers). Our favourite option is Anna, but I am concerned it is simple too close to Anne for daily use....

We are on the hunt for a boy's name which is a variant of John. We want to use it in honour of my husband's grandfather, who was John, known as Jack but I don't want to use John or...

Amara Genevieve is absolutely gorgeous, I love the combination. It seems like a lovely way to honour both family members whilst giving your little one her own name.
I know what you mean about...

What do you think of Alina? How would you pronounce it? Any thoughts on alternative spellings which may appear?
Middle name would be Joanne.
I came across this at work the other day, a...

Luke always sounds like look to me when said in the local accent where I live. It drives me mad because Luke is one of my favourite boys names, but I just won't consider it for that reason.

My Mom is friends with a Lesley, married to a Leslie. Both him & her go by Les. I find it completely confusing!
I wouldn't consider a unisex name for that and many other reasons, for either a boy...

Both names are fabulous, but Susannah Frances leads for miles for me - it is such a classic combination and Pheobe and Imogen are getting rather popular (in the UK where I am anyway).

AlexP, yes, Dh's grandfather was John but known as Jack his entire life. I very much prefer the name John to Jack, Jack is just a name which doesn't work for me but DH is adamant he would rather it...

Thats a good point Misha, thanks. with Thomas, I imagine he will end up being called Tom, which raises the question of Tom M again... Our surname starts with Mc, so the M sound isn't very strong...

Thanks! I love, love, love Oliver, that is currently my favourite boys name - but it is so popular in the UK at the moment & we live in Scotland, so I am wary of using it. Oliver is the No1 name, and...

We have narrowed down our options for boys names to three so far. Mn for all will be Jack, to honour DH's grandfather who sadly died just before our wedding last year.

Thanks for all of your replies everyone.
Looking at the variations of pronunciation, I think there are just too many options for us to be comfortable with Lucia or Helena. They are such beautiful...

Thanks for the suggestion of Lucielle, it came up as an earlier option with DH but he has negative connotations with the name, and came up with the idea of Lucia instead. Lucy as another alternative...

Hmm, blade, thanks - we hadn't thought of the repeating Ns actually, that has made me think. We have an N in our surname as well. That may...

Thanks for the ideas Lemon - I should have actually said if we went with Hazel, it would be Joanna/Johanna - I love names which end with 'a' but don't want a fn & mn which both end in a, so Hazel...
What a gorgeous name!! Congratulations, enjoy your new little bundle of joy.

We thought we had decided on Susannah Caroline, but a few other options have appeared that we love but are not sure if they will have pronunciation issues.
What do you think of

Not sure why...
