I have a lot of close cousins and friends as well.
I feel the same way.

Please, don't believe that. The people saying that are mean and judgemental. Having siblings does not make one a better person. Otherwise, this world would be a lot better/kinder. There are lots...
I'm an only child, so is my grandmother, two cousins, best friend, and ex-boyfriend. I was never lonely. I've never heard the other onlies I know say that they were lonely, either.
I agree with you.
Is there anyone on the forum who doesn't have any siblings?

Some people have aunts and uncles in name only. They barely see them, and don't really have much of a relationship with them. Again, if you are really worried about that, your friends and cousins...

That's not true. Good friends and cousins can be just as close as siblings. Also, what about the many people who are estranged from their siblings?
How do you know for sure that they would...

If you had an older brother, how do you know that you would even like his personality? He could be someone whom you wished was not your brother. He may not even like you. Couldn't you play pranks...

Alone? But don't you have parents, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, a significant other? Just one lone sibling vs everyone else in your life, would keep you from feeling alone?
As for the...

I'm an only child and I was never lonely. I had cousins, neighborhood kids, classmates, and even my parents and I played card games. Plus, aren't cousins considered relatives?

But that's not an only child thing.
What about if you ever had to live alone as an adult, at your own place? Having siblings does not prevent you from living alone or being alone.

Okay. Thanks. Then, you and I are on the same side.
Again, I am not at all saying that having siblings is a bad thing. Sorry, if that's what came across. I was trying to point out to some...

I was trying to point out that having siblings is not always a "gift." And that lacking siblings does not automatically mean a person will be "disadvantaged."

No. That's not the reason east93 was cross with me. East93 was cross with me because I defended the notion of only children being awful. There was a poster stating that she feels sorry for all...

I was not at all saying that being a sibling makes you a bully or a bad person. I was defending the popular notion that being an only child makes one a bad person, bully etc. My point was that...

Amberdaydream, I was not trying to offend you. I'm not at all saying that having siblings is awful. However, I don't think being an only child is awful, either. There are several posts on this...

Okay. But I'm talking about the many others whom I know who didn't enjoy the experience of siblings. And a only child has special times and good memories with their parents as well.

Not according to some families where the parental attention is unbalanced with a parent showing favoritism. And with extreme competition between siblings. The favoritism causes sibling rivalry,...

I promise this will be the last article, but this one was way too interesting/important to leave out:

That's true, hayley88.
I just couldn't resist pointing out several examples that contradict the naysaysers. I guess I did go a little overboard. lol
