No nicknames (or at least nn's derived from the names themselves) for either so far, though Forsythia is a hard name for a not-yet-2-year-old, she says something like "Sippipee" now.
No one would bat an eye in the South. Just off the top of my head, I know a Mary Miller, Mary Lloyd, Mary Abbott, and a Lily Bentham.
Hi all! I've been pestering y'all for half the year it seems about the name for baby #2. My gut was right, and we had a lovely little girl, born at home two weeks early on July 16th. After spending a...
Well, that was the most dramatic Post and Disappear I've ever done. I posted my plea for help (thanks for the generous responses) and then promptly went into labor. As with last time, not knowing...
I've got 2 weeks left before Baby#2 arrives, maybe less (though this is perhaps wishful thinking: being 9 months pregnant in July is horrible!). We have a boy's name, but we've been stuck on the...
I like it. No one would bat an eye if you named a twin Thomas, so I don't see a problem with using Tamsin, but you'd have to be pretty proactive about discouraging Tammy!

For some reason Heidi seems a little dated to me, but maybe just because the only ones I know were born in the 70s. I prefer Adelaide or Georgia, with a slight preference for Adelaide! Daphne and...
We're pretty set on using some form of Margaret as a middle name if this one is a girl, but I'm not sure which one I like best. First name will probably be either Forsythia, Euphemia, or Eudora....
Valjean? Like in Les Mis! (just kidding)
Is Olwen pronounced OLE-win or OLL-win (as in doll)? I like it!
Valeria seems obvious, but it reminds me of Malaria.
Valerie means strength or...
You don't happen to have a nice middle name to work with do you? I have a friend who changed her name when she was in college, but her family was kind of miffed about it. Her name was Lynsey Marie,...
Gabriel and Evelyn are such classics, so Maverick and Sirius seems like a big departures. I really like Leo with Gabriel and Evelyn the best. I really like Victor too.

I like Opal, Orla, Alafair (this is how I've seen it spelled...it's an old southern name, probably with Scottish origins), and Seraphine. I also have secondhand knowledge of a little girl named...

I had a good friend tell me once that you shouldn't name your kid anything that makes you feel stupid when you shout it out loud in a ticked off voice from your porch. As in " [Kid's name]! Where...
With Calvin, I think I like Felicity the best, though it's usually not one of my favorites. We had Waverley on our list with my first child, but I've since cooled.

Isla is becoming popular enough these days that you wouldn't need to correct many people unless you live in an are with a lot of Spanish-speakers (Miami, El Paso, etc) where you get a lot of EES-la.
Virginia and Katherine and Agnes all mean pure.
I actually like some of the longer names with pearl, so my favorite is Amelia Pearl (sooo pretty!).
I also like Lennon and Sylvia.

I like Selah Evangeline and Selah Abigail.
I think it depends on where you are. I'm from the South and my name is Maura. I say something akin to Mawra, except not really a whole W sound. More like MAHra. Actually, I pronounce it almost...

In search of longish, old-fashioned off-the-beaten track girl names that aren't easily nicknamified! I know that no name can be totally nickname proof, but I actually really like that my sweet little...
