Just thought I'd chime in with a real world example. When my daughter Margaret was born, we nicknamed her Mamie. During the 4 months we stuck with the nickname, she was frequently called "Mammy" and...

I like Elizabeth Marie. My favorite Elizabeth in is Bess or Bessie, but there are tons to choose from.

I like Cicely
Love this style!
Anne is my favorite - I'm likely to use it for the daughter I'm expecting this winter.
Jane is my 2nd choice, followed by Rose.
I'm not wild about Eve, but I don't dislike it....
I think its fine. As a kid, I knew a girl named Erin Caitlin who had a sister named Caitlin and it was never an issue. No one even knew unless one of the girls mentioned it as an unusual fact.
I love Mary! Classy but unpretentious. Great choice.
I really wanted to use Mae as a nickname for Margaret, but my mother said it reminded her of her estranged sister (her sister's middle name). We compromised and called Margaret "Mamie" for a few...
Another vote for Annie. Love it.
I'm due at the end of December
Update: Just found out its a girl!!
We've been pretty settled on a girl's name throughout the pregnancy (still Anne Marcella), but now that we can zero in, I just want to get some fresh feedback...
Joseph is one of my favorite all-time names. Classic without trying too hard.
I agree. Violet and Fiona sound best together.
At this moment, I'm loving Peter. Classic without being pretentious and familiar without being overused. And I love that it has one of the great all-boy nicknames.
Joseph has been my favorite...

Just found out this week that I'm pregnant! I posted a few names we're thinking about for boys in the boys forum, but wanted to get some feedback on the name we're pretty sure we'll use for a girl....

Thanks so much for all the feedback. Great imagery here! At the moment, based on these comments I'm loving Peter I think, with Ned a close second. As for nicknames, in general we like them. When...
I like both names, but Thomas Patrick is, by far, my favorite of the 2. Thomas has longer history as an independent given name and it isn't used as often. And Tom is every bit as strong as Jack. Good...
And I forgot Mary
Love your taste in names!
Some names that have not been mentioned that might work:

Just found out yesterday that I'm expecting(!) with a December 29 due date. My husband and I have an 18 month old daughter, Margaret, and we want a similarly underused strong classic for the...

Which do you prefer?
How do you picture each of them?
I like Augustus of the 3. Frederick is also a really nice name.
I voted for Eliza, but it was a close vote. I actually like Hazel and I don't think it sounds the least bit fusty. I would be a little concerned that while Hazel doesn't quite meet the definition...
My husband and I are thinking ahead to names for a 2nd child (I'm not pregnant yet). Our daughter, Margaret (Maggie, usually) was almost Anne or Annie and that is still a name we would love to use...
