Your DH sounds a lot like my SO! He only likes names that he associates either with his sci fi addiction or that are mythological, especially from northern mythology. (Trust me, this leads to no end of frustration on my part.)
Check out this list for inspiration: http://nameberry.com/list/437/Steampunk-Baby-Names
I don't know if it'll help in the nature names department, but it's certainly offbeat, your DH will probably like it, and you never know.
Quill (also a sci fi name, also Quillam)
(some fantasy names)
(some mythological/ancient names)
Lucien/Lucius (also fantasy)
Sorry if there are any repeats! I hope this helps.
Edit: I posted this before I saw that you said no -n names! Sorry about that :/
Some of these I quite like! Namely:
Reynard - Reynard the Fox, I adore this option.
Orvar - I know he will like this one. I find it's very handsome written but kind of a mouthful to say out loud. Have to think about it.
Fletcher - I proposed this name to him but he prefers Archer and Arrow to Fletcher.
Briar or Thorn - Well I certainly like both of these! I'll be pushing for these ones for sure.
Peregrin - Very interesting option. I love LOTR, and Peregrin hits that sweet spot. Unfortunate that it ends in N :(
Idris - This name is very cool but may be too feminine for us.
Forrest/Forrester - Forrester we like!
Linden - There are a lot of Lindens in our area (we live in Vancouver so lots of people name their kids after hockey players like Trevor Linden)
Arden / Roan / Aspen / Rivan / Tarqin / - Finishes with that pesky N!
Quill (also a sci fi name, also Quillam) - Too close to Quinn maybe.
Amaros - There is a large middle eastern & indian community here in BC so there are thousands of kids named Amar.
Aragorn - I think this might be too much. Great character though!
Aurelian - I LOVE IT! Is this too close to Aurielle? Probably. My hubs has a close family member named Aurielle. Fantastic name, I would totally have overlooked my -n rule here.
Lucien/Lucius (also fantasy) - I would like Lucius if not for the HP association.
Marius - My mother is Mary and my DD's middle is Rosemary so this one might not be for us.
If you like Peregrin it can also be spelt Peregrine, although that's still an N sound. It could also be shortened to Perry, or you could use the Italian version (Pellegrino) or the late Roman version (Peregrinus) if you don't think either are too strange.
One I immediately thought of was Thorn. It's natury, but is also very close to Thor. It might be a bit out there.
How about Andor? It's Norwegian and means "Thor's eagle".

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions!
bre- Love the name Andor, unfortunately it's a name similar to a guy I used to date so we've veto'd that one.
We have basically narrowed down our list to some combination of our favorites Ender/Aurelian/Fox/Erickson/Atlas/Sage.
I think we have come to an agreement and are leaning toward Atlas as our first name pick, I am liking Atlas Fox & Atlas Sage right now.
