Names you can't use
So I was just lamenting the vast number of gorgeous girl names that are off the table for us due to the fact that our siblings already gave them to their children. I thought maybe if everyone shared their "off the table" names, it would give others the opportunity to use some gems that you might not be able to use. Here are mine.
Nieces and nephews (I happen to think all of my in-laws have excellent taste in baby names!):
Eleanor (called Nora)
Names of close friends' children:
Names that are off the table for me because of close friends or family:
Jesper nn Jesse (I think this is gorgeous)
and any names with that are L heavy!
There are more but these are my favourites.
Your friends and family do have great taste! So far, none of our friends have really used any names we would have considered. I do love some of the names, they just wouldn't fit our sibset. My uncle and aunt, on the other hand, named my cousins some pretty amazing names we probably would have considered, but honestly they may have influenced my taste in names in the first place.
Eleanor (nn Nora)
Lenora Clover (nn Nora)
Magdalena (nn Lena)
Elisabeth Adelaine (nn Lainey)
Fiona (WAY before Shrek made it familiar)
Names of those close to me or claimed by family members:
Apollo (Goes by AJ)
For various reasons, I can't use:
Sohan is one that I like but couldn't use. I don't think I could bring myself to use it anyway but it sounds too matchy with our daughters name.
That's all I can think of right now!
Oooh, thrilled to see Persephone and Apollo! Apollo is a guilty pleasure name for me, and so is Ptolemy. Jesper is also interesting.
Jack, Caroline, Max (best friends' children)
Stella, Zadie (my cats)
Sasha, Simon (family pets)
Another close friend is due in a month. I told her my favorite boy names and she told me they had (coincidentally) already settled on one of those names. I'm betting on Jasper, Amias, or Milo. :-(
McKay and Vienna. Both are nice names, but I don't think I would have used either of them even if my "in-laws" hadn't. :)
However, a few that I'm sad to see go are Ivy and Cassie. I think both are adorable and I would definitely consider them, but Ivy is the name of my boyfriend's brother's dog and Cassie is the name of an old cat of his too. Sad.
