We can never agree...
I'm sure this is a common issue but my husband and I literally cannot agree on a name we like and I think it's because we have such different styles. I like names that are more modern sounding, but not "made up" and he goes for the ultra traditional. Here's some examples of what I like and what he likes, and hopefully you guys can help me find a few names that are somewhere in the middle so we can maybe find SOMETHING we like enough to use.
Calvin (or anything with the nickname Cal)
And he likes things like:
I don't hate his name choices but I just prefer something a little fresher and less common. Does anyone know what we could use?
What about Nathaniel? It's a bit more classic than Nathaniel (in my opinion) and fits in with your husband's favorites. It's only a few letters away from one of your favorites (Nathan) and can not only get the same nickname of Nate but could go by Nathan as well.
Overall, your styles aren't too different.
Some other suggestions:
I second the suggestion of Nathaniel nn Nate!
Some of the names on your list seem compatible with your husbands - you both like classics, his are just more ultra traditional where as yours are more modern and quirky!
Could he come around on Noah, James or Peter?
Or how about:
Callum or Caleb nn Cal
Nicholas (I know it's on his list! But nn Cole?)
Thank you! Caleb has been catching my eye lately actually and for some reason it didnt occur to me that we could nickname him Cal... might have to run that one by him. And I like Miles and Tristan- he vetoed Travis which I really like but maybe Tristan- they start with the same sound so who knows. Thanks :)
How about using Nicholas, but calling him Nico? Nico seems like it could fit into your style.
What about Malcolm, Caspian, Toby, Reid, Jasper, Cyrus, Darius, Dominic, or Rhys? These all seem to be in between modern and classic to me... Peter and Calvin both seem quite classic... do those not work? Alexander, nn Xan or Xander would be quite modern... William has the modern nn Liam. Christopher could go by the nn Topher... John has the nn Jack, which is now considered modern. There's also Theodore nn Theo, Lincoln nn Linc, Sullivan nn Van or Ivan or Sully, Ezra, Colin, Sebastian nn Ian...
My first thought was that Noah and James seem like they wouldn't be out of place on his list either. Nathaniel is a nice suggestion too. I also love circus85's suggestions of Luke. What about Jonah/Jonas?
Lots of gorgeous names!! Cant wait to write them down- Rhys is on my list but he thinks the spelling is "absurd" and "no one would be able to pronounce it" meanwhile it's the actual, original spelling and I love it.
Malcolm is nice, and I also like Jasper, Jonas, and Dominic. I have a feeling I can get a compromise out of him with one of these. Awesome suggestions.
