Greek and Roman names
I haven't been on for a few weeks because I was so busy with Nelly. But now I am back, with a bunch of new names.
(I started thinking about future babies a few days ago - we are going to start TTC sometime next year and I would like to have a name picked)
I am crazy in love with ancient names recently - you know, especially Greek, Latin, Roman and Welsh ones. These are some medieval and ancient ideas so far
Dita(maybe nickname for Perdita)
I would like as many ideas, comments and suggestions as you can. Honestly, I don't have any time to search through books and Internet so my list is quite short(unfortunately, my big list was deleted).
I enjoy not only Greek, Latin, Welsh but also vintage British, colonial, nature and historic names. Any ideas on these would also be great:)
P.S. Nelly's full name is Cornelia Hermione Winter if it helps.
I'll comment on these first, then I'll be back with ideas.
Aemilia - I think this is very beautiful. It would make a lovely sister for Cornelia I think, both classic ancient Roman names.
Aldora - Not a huge fan. Maybe because I, in general, dislike -dora names.
Alexandrine - It sounds nasal and whiny to me. I'd prefer Alexandria.
Amandine - Cute, sounds very Parisian to me.
Amy - Classic and sweet.
Araminta - Pretty, and would look good with big sis.
Arianwen - Love this name, so beautiful. Cornelia and Arianwen would be smashing.
Beata - I love this so much. A stunning name.
Blanca - Eeh, not a fan.
Bronwen - Beautiful, although I like Branwen more.
Caledonia - Very pretty, but only as a middle.
Cerelia - Boring.
Circe - Love! As you might see in my sig, this is one of my very favourites, and have been since I was four-ish. I adore it.
Cytheria - Epic epithet of Aphrodite. Beautiful.
Dafna, Daphna - I'd prefer classic Dafne or Daphne. The -a looks weird at the end if this one.
Dita (maybe nickname for Perdita) - Huge fan for personal reasons ;). Perdita's beautiful, and would be gorgeous with Nelly.
Dorothy - I only think of the Wizard of Oz.
Elletra - Elettra or Electra would be better.
Endelientha - Beautiful, but I'd stick it in the middle.
Eridian - Sounds like a boy name. Like a fantasy thing.
Euphraxia - Pretty, another for the middle I think.
Euprosinia - Same as above.
Faina - I like this, very Ukrainian.
Fides - Nice mythological association, but the name isn't so great.
Gemelle - You're joking? It's the Italian word for twins.
Glikeria - Sounds like a disease.
Gwenore - Beautiful, and I think it would fit perfectly with Cornelia.
Hespera - Again, see my signature. I love love love this.
Hippolyta - Lovely, but has Hippo in it.
Hyacinth - Good for a middle.
Illythyia - Illithyia would be better, and for the middle.
Isaura - Isauria? I quite like it.
Isidora - Pretty, would be lovely with Cornelia.
Justine - Sweet, would be lovely for the middle spot.
Kapitolina - No, you can do better than that!
Kara - Cara, please? Very cute.
Kira - Beautiful, I prefer Keira but that's me.
Laelia - Sweet.
Levana - Eeh, boring.
Livia - Yes, this one's good. One of the best ones here I think.
Livie - No, the above is better.
Malva - This just sounds wrong.
Nemea - as in the Nemean Lion? Quite cool, I like Nemera more.
Nova - Pretty and I like the star connection.
Olympia - Beautiful, and again, on my list. So queenly and statuesque.
Orianthe - Pretty in the middle.
Panthea - Cool and mothesque.
Pelagia - Beautiful and oceanlike.
Philippina - Nope.
Priscilla - Beautiful, it would fit in well with your daughter's name.
Proserpina - Yes! So lovely.
Rhianna - Nope, due to the singer.
Rhiannon - Love this, her myth, the name and the cult.
Selena - Gorgeous, though I prefer Selene.
Sybil - Lovely, and has the same vintage feel as Cornelia.
Sophronia - Very pretty.
Stella - Cute and adorable.
Tanaquil - I love this. So faerielike and beautiful.
Tatiana - Enchanting, I like Titania more, but that's personal taste.
Veronica - Gorgeous, and would be perfect with Nelly.
Vesna - Sounds like Vespa with a n :(
Vitaline - Sounds like a health shop.
Xenia - Love!!! So cute and pretty and tough.
Zinaida - Quite pretty.
Zoya - Reminds me of soy...

Thank you so much, otillie, you are a super sweetheart. I didn't expect somebody to comment on all names, but wow:)
And about Gemelle...it was my SO! I don't know where did he found this but he jumped around me and talked about such a pretty name. I don't speak Italian and I haven't looked the name up because I was feeding Nelly then...SO will have a serious talk with me, ha ha. I should have though about Gemini thing.
From your suggestions, all lovely, I especially like Azenor, Berenice(long love), Cassandra, Ceridwen, Lavinia, Leocadia, Messalina, Venatrix and Zephyrine. Thanks:)
P.S. I just looked through your old post to find out Roo's new name. Aphrodite is beautiful and I love the middle names as well. Good job and congrats on her new name! ;)
P.P.S. Sorry for question, I am just soo interested to know how many languages do you know? I guess English, Italian, French...Or even more? I only know English and Ukrainian.
Ismene (IS-muh-nee) and Antigone strike me as good possibles... Nice shortenings too, in Izzy/Minnie or Tiggy/Annie.
Julia too obvious? Good Roman name. Also Aelia. (I'd avoid Livia, she was a horrible, horrible woman - at least the one who was Augustus' wife was). Imogen. Calpurnia... Hestia (goddess of hearth and home) is beautiful. And you have Hespera, but Hesper on its own is nice too.
Eirlys (hard to explain the pn in Welsh, it's like Ay-rrr-lis), Eirwen (AY-rrr-wen)
