Just how usable are goddess names? Both our girls have the Roman vesrions of Greek goddesses in their names. It's a tradition we'd like to continue. Some of my favorites:
Artemis (Thea is a great nn for both)
Freja (super popular in AUS and UK)
Do these carry too much weight in their original forms? Any others you might suggest?
Personally, I love Phaedra. Beautiful but not too popular.
I love greek mythology! which is why my dog's name is Athena so that's really all I can associate it with :/ But for Artemis you could use Diana which is the roman version. Personally, I think Diana is a lovely, elegant, and classic name.
What are your other daughter's names? If you don't mind me asking :)
I like Athena, Phaedra and Freja.... I think they are usable.
Freja is popular here, though usually spelt Freya. It's very usable though not really my thing. I like Athena more but its more uncommon. I like Artemisia more than Artemis but that could be seen as making it even clunkier.
My favourite goddess names are:
Minerva (I prefer this to Athena)
I wouldn't call Freya super popular in Australia- isnt it like #200 in NSW?
I think its in the top 100 in Tas and Canberra tho.
Phaedra and Hero aren't goddesses, just so you know ;) I love mythology, and I planned on using one in my daughter's name, although that didn't happen. I tried to stay away from the major goddesses because of the associations. And there are so many demi goddesses and nymphs with beautiful names too!
and then there are the mortals:
I made a post about mythological names here, although some are pretty out there
Morgan (or Morrigan/ Morgana)
Frigg or Frigga
So psyched to see Freja there (and how lovely to see "my own", Danish spelling of the name). Though if your other children have names of Roman/Greek goddesses, I'd personally use another name of a Roman/Greek goddess for another kid.
My own personal favourites (Greek/Roman):
Gaia (technically not a goddess but the personification of Earth)
Some Norse Goddesses for your consideration:
Yerp. It's one of those 'every other girl' names at the moment! Although they tend to spell it Freya as someone above said. Not half as pretty as Freja in my opinion.
