East - Thanks :) Yeah, I think I have to try and stick to it. I'm just going to try REALLY hard to avoid any further name conversations with the mother.
Ottilie - Hehe, it was very cute! :) And guess what - I bit the bullet and ordered a personalized towel last night! :D Tyne William Henry. Eeeek! It wasn't too pricey so I'm not saying it won't change but I thought ordering something personalized was a big step! :)
Aww how can she not like you?! I think some parents are just impossible to please, I know my mother certainly is! I'm REALLY hoping we won't be here for too long - the idea was to stay until around the beginning of May, so about 4 weeks after baby is born, but if we can get out sooner I will be! *fingers crossed*
While I agree that it is 100% your choice, I know that is easier said than done. One "compromise" I can see is coming up with your definite top 5 or 10 or whatever and telling them:
"Our child WILL be given one of these names. I value your opinion though so please rate these names from favorite to least favorite and we'll take it into consideration when we name him"
That may be one way to get a name you love, but know that they had some say/feel like their opinion was valued and what not. Either way though, good luck!
Goodie! That makes me so happy, a little towel with Tyne's name on it! Yay! I hope you find a place sooner, it must be horrid to live with your parents with your first new baby. I know living with mine would be awful.

@ottilie-- did you?
@hayley-- congratulations on your big step forward.
@Ottilie - LMAO!!! Ohh that is hilarious. And also funny coz I actually do mess around with candle magic and I DID do that to Jon! Lol!! :D Ssssh...
But then again I see her point, I mean...not ironing his underwear...*tut tut*...is he supposed to come home and do that himself after a hard day at the office?! Next thing you won't have his dinner on the table and a crazy smile plastered on your face when he walks through the door...
@Blade - thank you :D ...I still can't bring myself to tell Mommie Dearest that I ordered it hehe!.....Baby steps Bladey, baby steps...
@Jess - thank you for the suggestion, I actually did do that a few days ago. I asked them to number them in order of their favourites, from 1-5 - My dad wrote "5" on all of them, and my mum scribbled out Tyne and replaced it with Elliott. :/
I'd tell them something along the lines of "You had your chance of picking a name when pregnant with me, and now it's my time. Please respect that". Whatever you choose, they'll come around. They might not like Tyne now but once they hold their grandbaby in their hands, they're probably gonna love anything to do with him, including his name.
Of course I did, I mean he's a catch! Narcissistic artist who works all the time and have dust all over his close and never shaves? No, he is a catch, I love him. I do have tarot cards, and I love jasmine and frankincense and I have cats, and I look like someone who would portray Morgana Le Fay or Circe I guess, she said that when I was brought home. So, yeah, I put a spell on him... (I moved in with him a few days after we got together, so I think that's a part of it). I actually enjoy ironing from time to time, but not his underwear! That's ridiculous. Stepford wife is the goal for what all women should be like... No, she's a sweet woman, I'm just not her cup of tea. I can live with it.
Baby steps, Hayles, good idea. I went by the cutest little shop today called One Small Step One Giant Leap, so cute. I have no idea why that came up, it just did!
@Anton - I hope you're right! :)
@Otti - Lol!! Bless her. She sounds amusing :P Ooh I do tarot cards too! Obviously this makes us devil women...(My mother actually took me to see a nun when I started using tarot at 12, seriously....a NUN).
Aww that sounds cute! Was it a baby shop?
A nun? That's crazy!
Yes, a baby and kiddie shoe shop in Clapham, also known as yummy mummy paradise...
I so enjoyed reading this whole thread! I LOVE that you ordered a personalized towel with his name-to-be (hopefully) on it. Honestly, Tyne is so adorable and unique, I think you have a winner. I agree with a pp that it was so completely unfair of you mom to compare this possible name with your's sister's children's names. That comment would have solidified my decision to go for it for sure!! But I get your hesitation. Do what will ensure you have no regrets. Also, maybe this is the first step to incorporating a new approach of not being so concerned with what others think (in general). Oh how families make us crazy! Good luck.
