@Alzora - I tracked my Basil temp... and I didn't buy a special thermometer. I talked to a pharmacist and she said to use a regular thermometer, and to take your temp while at rest. So first thing in the morning before you get out of bed. I tracked mine for over a full year, and here is what I found out:
In combination with the Wandfo Ovulation kits (because I couldn't figure out the mucus part), I would pop positive on the kits for about 2 days, and then I would see a 1+ degree spike in my basil temp for another 2 days. I relied on that to make sure I ovulated. So when my January cycle was so off - pop positive on the test strip 5 days early, for 2 days, no change in basil temp for 5 days, and then my basil temp goes up 2 degrees - I thought the cycle was a bust. I kind of wish I had kept testing on the ovulation strips to see if I ovulated more than once.
I also have a friend who uses the Catholic Natural Planning method, only using the Basil Body temp, etc. as birth control. She has it all charted, and once her basil temp spikes, they know that they are in the clear and back to business as usual. It's worked for her for conception and prevention for 10 years (and 3 kids) now.
Welcome rosebyanyothername! I got the bad news on valentines day too. I've been trying since December, but since we haven't had much trouble getting pregnant in the past I have a very "when it happens, it happens" mentality. I do have a feeling this cycle might be a bit strange. I usually have consistant cycles but this time I had some cramping around CD11. I usually don't even get much cramping before AF. It was probably dehydration or something. I don't track my temps, but I am pretty early in the game.
@alzora, cervical mucus does not necessarily mean you ovulated. I got really excited last month cause I had not noticeably had it before and called my doctor too early (I needed to go in for an ultrasound once I ovulated) and when I went in she told me I wasn't ready to ovulate yet. The cervical mucus that I was experiencing was follicles on my ovaries. I didn't ovulate for another week after that, according to OPKs. It is weird learning all of this about my body! :)
I have learned that my temp spikes, CM changes, LH surges on ovulation test strips, and mittelschmerz (ovulation pain) NEVER SYNC UP. Never. So I quit following/testing for all of them. Well that's a lie I just quit relying on any of them. We're just doing every other day intimacy and then maybe an extra sex day if I get one of the ovulation symptoms as listed. If this doesn't work then I don't know what.
@skarba cramping at cd11 is a good ovulation sign!
@grecian, I would only use a special BBT so that it measures to a 100th of a degree, not just a 10th, as the changes can be so very slight you don't want to miss them. I bought a purple one for about $8, but I just can't commit to testing the same time every day.
I also have a saliva microscope to observe ferning ... But that never worked for me and was an expensive waste of time. Increased estrogen in the saliva is supposed to increase the appearance of "ferns" on the little microscope.
Thank you my dear. The shots are pretty much a guarantee while prego, but knowing it is just a sacrifice for a health baby is the only thing that will get me through it. DH has already said he will give me shots too. I hope, that since I have to change my high risk OB (she left actively practicing medicine; another sob fest for another day), that the new dr will be okay with once daily dosing of the shots, not twice daily, at least in the beginning. As you get closer to delivery you have to go on regular heparin (not low molecular weight heparin) and those shots are 3-4 times per day until you deliver! But then you get a baby so it's all worth it

Saliva Ferning?! Seriously?
Also poppy, not sure exactly where you live but Evergreen, Swedish and of course UW have good perinatologist groups.
Crap, now I'm wondering if our past six months of TTC have been a bust because we've been trying at the wrong time. How far apart are your temperature spikes, cervical mucus, etc.? Every month we've tried for about 5 days in a row, and AF always ends up coming exactly 14 days after one of those attempts. I thought I read somewhere that AF can pretty much be counted on to show up 14-15 days after ovulation, so based on the calendar, we've been hitting it. Based on cervical mucus as well. But maybe I should pick up a thermometer.

Truthfully that would probably produce quicker results, but do you think I will take my own advice? Noooo, I'll probably have a basil body thermometer in my hands by tomorrow.
Good luck, @Blade!
Alzora, do you have the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler? I've found it really helpful in sorting out the mystery that is my lady plumbing. Mine still doesn't work the way it's supposed to, but if you want to learn how to chart, that's your book. It is pretty cheezy 80s "Our Bodies, Our Selves" and it gets a bit goddess-circley and you will see the cervical mucus of strangers, but it's super helpful. I've read about a zillion reviews, posts, etc. about people who've gotten pregnant using what they learned in this book.
As for me, I've recovered pretty well. My ovarian drilling was a week ago yesterday. I can still "feel" my ovaries, if that makes sense, and I've heard I will for a while. But (most of) the awful gas is gone and the pain is just mild discomfort.
WARNING: BELOW LIES TMI.
The nurses told me I would bleed for a few days after surgery, and everybody I've seen on the Webbernets says they bled, too. I didn't. I started bleeding 4 days or so after, but only about half a day of it was legit red flow. The rest was like dark brown, more like spotting. It lasted maybe 3 days and it seems to be all but gone.
So. I'm worried. Of course! It's what I do, apparently. But I'm not having the "typical" result so I jump to the conclusion that it didn't work.
This is stupid. I need to give my body time to heal. I know that. Worrying doesn't help anything. I know that, too.
Anyway. That's what's going on with me.
I hope lots of y'all are posting BFPs soon! Keep the faith, gals!
does anyone use tracking cervical changes? its soaccurate, it takes all the guesswork out, and is as easy as putting in a tampon. It works!
also, try cassava root supplement. i just ordered mine!
I tried the saliva microscope thing too. Ugh. Other than getting to pretend I was a scientist first thing in the morning, it was not very useful. I did see "ferning" patterns, but they didn't seem to bear any relationship to any actual ovulation on my part. I've stopped charting my basal temp. 'cause it sucks and I don't think I've ever gotten any useful information from it. I bought a big pack of Wandfo OPK strips. I'm not very good at taking my temp. at the same time every morning, discerning microscopic patterns in spit, or charting cervical mucus, but I'm pretty good at peeing on a stick!
