Dorothea Lange was the supreme visual chronicler of the Great Depression, producing iconic, heart-wrenching portraits of the impoverished. A romantic Victorian name, as is its reverse form Theodora, Dorothea comes with an array of appealing nicknames—Dory, Doro, Dot, Dottie and Thea.
