I named my eldest Tristan - checked all the list and it wasn't on it, but then the lists from the year he was born came and there it was! In the top 50... Gutted! (before I lived in the UK)

I'd loved our youngests name, Noah, for years too and checked the lists. It was there but not too popular - it had been #1 in my native country for some years, but the fact it wasn't too popular in the UK meant I felt it was usable.. well! 2 years on and its #15... urgh!

Haha yeah. I'm paranoid. But I think my absolute favorite girls' names are good to go. And I predict they will for a good while. Maybe even forever. Boys' names... not so much. There's one I'm especially worried about just because when I first thought of it, I thought it was NO where to be seen. Started checking stats, and "oh noooo!". It's in the 600's and rising. I think it will stop though. But, like someone else said, it's just not as important for the boys to be unique for some reason.. A have a couple of classic favorites in the top 150, but it doesn't bother me.

Tbh, I don't really much care for the top 100 girls names AT ALL. There's a few just below the top 100 that I like, but I don't predict them getting any higher, so I'm good.

I'm so paranoid about this that I have crossed names off my list as soon as I hear that a celebrity uses one, simply because of the chance that they might get popular. Violet was my #1 for years - until Violet Affleck came along. Ruby then moved up from #2 - only to be followed by Tobey Maguire's daughter a year later. I get wary when a name reaches the top 200, and boys' names are even harder because I love some that have made such leaps!

I am terribly annoyed by the recent popularity of June. She has just been making leaps and bounds in popularity!

The other names I have planned -- Augustus, Maude -- have remained steadily above the 700s, but June is skyrocketing from out of nowhere!

Isabella is a name that I've loved since I was a child. Still planning on using it, but a little saddened that my future daughter might be known as Isabella V. or by some inventive nickname. Such a beautiful name though...

I completely understand posters scoffing at the mini freak-outs some of us have over names we love no longer being unique enough, because, yeah, in the grand scheme of things not many children are in therapy because there were five Matts in their class.

However, growing up as an Amelia who only met maybe one or two others in my whole childhood, and they were never my age or in my school, I really appreciate the feeling of knowing your parents gave you something unique (while at the same time, not being a crazy unknown/unpronouncable name). So personally, it bums me out to see how popular Amelia is becoming, even though obviously I love the name so I'm not surprised that it's gaining steam.

We named my son Everett in honor of my grandfather (it's my grandpa's brother's name) in 2010, and didn't tell anyone the name until he was born, and never knew anyone else with it, so it seemed to fit what Amelia had been to me as a child. Then, once he was born Everetts seemed to fly out of the woodwork!!! Our pediatrician, at our first visit, said in all their years as a practice they had never had a single Everett as a patient, and in the SAME WEEK as our son's birth, there were 2-3 other Everett's born to the practice! Go figure! :-) I'm glad that our choice was not only based on uniqueness, but in honor of my grandfather, because that will make his name special to him no matter how many other Everetts he meets!

My girl picks are shooting up the charts as well, so I'm not going to share them, as I'm due in March and every mention on a blog or site is just going to keep them at the forefront of people's minds! :-)

My Beautiful Grandma's name is Isabel Grace.Growing up in the Adirondack mt. in upstate NY, I never new another Isabel "Issy" and neither has she. Probly why she never liked it. there were allot of Mary's and Loretta's Theresa's, and Dorthy's. Now that I'm grown and appreciate what a wonder person she is to have in my life I'd love to name my daughter after her. It's to bad that her name will be overshadowed by 5 other lil girls in her class with the same name, :(.

I have to say though, I proved myself to be a true name-ophile by loving the names before they hit the top 100. It's just a challenge to find the next great name without choosing the next "it" name.

Lily, my grandma's name. And Cora, a name I gave my doll a few (ahem) decades ago. For boys, Tobias (thought I discovered it) and Malcolm/Miles/Milo. I think part of the sting is that we all think we're original and different, and it's humbling to realize so many other people have the same idea.
