Rose is one of my two top contenders for a FIRST name, and I agree that the trend should move that direction (or maybe not, so my little girl can stay unique!)

In the last few days two people on a forum I frequent have had baby girls: Evelyn Rose, and Emily Rose. Both are lovely names but it bought home to me how incredibly popular that middle name is. I know a teenage Emily Rose as well, and two other girls with it as their middle name. I really do like the name, it goes beautifully with lots of my favourite names, but it's sadly become overused.

My daughters name is Emma Rose Helene. I never thought I'd use the name Rose, it's def overused. But I had to compromise with her father. We waited till she was born and had list of names, but when we saw her, I knew she had an old soul. So went went with an old style name. I've never met an Emma Rose where we live. I think she's safe from having 6 in her class. Lol.

My middle name is Rose, and I hate how popular it's become (I'm 22). I always receive compliments from people my own age when I hear it, which isn't surprising given its popularity among new parents.

That said, I personally feel that Rose is more timeless than "Marie," "Lynn," or "Ann," and believe that its romantic associations will keep it from being simply "boring." Perhaps it will turn into the "Emily" of middle names- way overused but still pretty.

28% in this poll said "it's the perfect middle and I'm planning to use it". That alone stands for itself and underlines the whole Rose-epidemic.

Being someone named Rose, I also can't believe the number of "That's my middle name!" comments. Seriously, it's getting old.

I have only ever known one Rose (I'm twenty-eight), other than my great aunty Rosa. I really want to use Rosa as a first name if I ever have a daughter.

I have never come across a young Rosa. Come to think of it I have never come across any baby or young Mays either - there seems to be some names that are used over and over as firsts (Isabella and all of her derivatives, for instance - I know at least six) and those names used for MNs only.

I find overused first names more boring than the overused middle names. I have two middle names - and love that I do. So if you still adore Rose and wish to use it for whatever reason as a middle name, think about breaking it up with a second middle name.

I agree! Rose is nice enough, but I'm very tired of it as a middle name.

I agree that if Rose is a family name use it otherwise stay away from it. It shows that you are only creative enough to think of an interesting first name other wise and gave up when it came to the middle name.

I can say this as don't have any children so haven't made any of these mistakes. My sister has Margaret a family name as a middle name pasted on to all first born daughters of the first born woman in the family. My middle name will not be pasted on as it is horrible:- Gaye always wished it was Bertha instead as that was my great Aunt's name and I was born on her birthday.

I honestly think family names are the way to go. So if your grandmother was Rose, then do it. In my family, almost all the middle names are family names: Louisa, George, Elaine, Brewster, Hammett, Kathleen....I just like the idea of linking generations.
