I don't understand why the description for Rue is "a botanical name you might regret" I think it's a great name!

Finley shouldn't be a girls name. I couldn't imagine calling my little girl Finley. That could be partly because my 5 month old boy's name is Finley but it is not a girls name.

I vote for Eleanor over Alice. I don't mind picking between two names someone is considering, but w/o passing a judgmental statement on either. I normally do a lot of listening before offering name suggestions for a friend.

I like a lot of these names: Rue as a nn, Lula, Talulah, and Yardly. LOVE Paola. I would go with Adela<3 before Adele and maybe Rosalea or Rosilea before Rosylea. I guess I don't know how to pronounce Rosylea, but I want to say it Rah-zuh-Leah

@tarynkay - I am willing to call Finna legit. Actually, I kind of love it!

@tori101 - Have you ever heard of other given names with similar stories? Or is Rosylea one of one ...

I love John Green, and his son's name, Henry Atticus, is absolutely fantastic. I also would pick Alice. :]

I also adore Adele(both the name and the singer), although I'd probably only ever use it as a nickname for Adelaide or Adeline.

For Y names, what about Yael or Yoffa? Yael is one of my favorites, actually.
I like Lula, but it sounds more like a nickname to me. Adele is beautiful, but I'd be less likely to choose it now that the singer is famous.
I think I'd pick Alice to go with Green (of the two), but having a nice simple last name like Green would make me want to pick something much more unusual for a first name.

Aw Barack Obama gets stuck on giving baby name advice aww too cute!!!!

I prefer Eleanor to Alice. Both are lovely and even though my awful ex best friend who stole from me is an Alice I still think her name rocks in a quirky whimiscal way. Not that I'd ever use the name! Despite all the positives surrounding Alice I think Eleanor is far prettier! She's really elegant, majestic and oozes royalty. I love the nicknames for Eleanor as well.

Adele is a lovely name and I adore the association of the singer as well.

However dislike Paola, Lula and Rosylea which is just stupid (the whole thing surrounding the name is as well. I'm from South London it's all very cockney there doesn't mean I'm going to giving my child stupid cockney inspired names) and Yardley. Also Finley is great for a boy but for a girl sucks just like Riley and Bailey.

Talulah is cute prefer Tallulah spelling wise and is quite popular in the UK. Rue sounds adorable but the meaning is so awful can you imagine having a name that means 'regret'. I think as a cute nickname for Ruth (which is adorable as well and yet has the lovely meaning compassionate friend) it's great.

I prefer Finna as a girl version of the boyish Finn names. I heard it on Star Trek once, so that's legitimate, right?

I don't give naming advice unless specifically asked. And then I am exceedingly cautious about it. Once, at the request of a close friend, I spent weeks finding gorgeous and meaningful names for her expected twins. This was pre-nameberry. i went to the library for this, y'all. When they were born, she named them Cory and Cody, which are possibly the worst twin names ever conceived. I just would've preferred to not be involved at that point, you know? It wasn't like I felt she was obligated to pick a name I suggested, just.. Cory and Cody!

I do not like the meaning of Rue, either, especially to name a child. But it does seem like most of the little Ruby's we know get shortened to Ru, and that is pretty cute and not burdened with the regret meaning.

I do think that meaning is important though, as well as popular references. Even if its not to the parents, it may be to the child. I have a cousin named Regan who was annoyed when she found out that her mother named her after the evil daughter in King Lear.

Alice is waaay better than Eleanor. El names are too popular and Eleanor is the dowdiest one.
My favorite Y name for girls is Yvaine. Yara is pretty cool too. That would my pick for Megyn Kelly.
I love Tallulah and Lula!
Rue is adorable. Golden Girl names are becoming popular (Sophia and Rose, even Dorothy), but I don't think Blanche will ever make a come back... but Rue will!
Rosylea is really starting to appeal to me too. I have been searching for a unique girl's name that ends in lea... :)
