Moving forward to the “Wicked” books (Gregory Maguire’s take on Oz) turns up the fabulous Elphaba (Elphie), Galinda, Nessarose, Melina, and Liir.

I really like Cobalt, Coralie and Zeke… I want to like Zixi, I love “ixie” names, but I find this one a little hard to say.

No Glinda on the list? I’ve actually met one.

Thanks for this list, I love The Wizard of Oz (actually, I think Oz is a really cool name!) I didn’t realize there were 40 books! I want to go read them now!

No wonder you didn’t remember Olo–he was from the land of typos–should have been Ojo!
And you’re right–there are so many great names of animals and fairies and such, including:
Nikko the flying monkey
Kaliko, King of the Nomes
Mar the kangaroo
Locasta, the Good Witch of the North
Lavender Bear
Theobold the cat
Pim the leprechaun
Clio the banshee
Imogene the cow
and Pajuka, the Prime Minister turned goose

I know you chose not to include non-human characters, but that hardly seems fair considering the majority of the characters are talking animals or fairy denizens of Oz (Ozma is no more human than Billina). The Nome King for example is called both Ruggedo and Roquat, depending on the book. I always liked his names.
What about Ojo? I don’t remember Olo.

There’s also a great book by Baum called Queen Zixi of Ix with some whangdoodles of names in it:
Lulea
Espa
Ereol
Bud
Quavo
and of course, Zixi.
